With the release of Chase the Skies for Minecraft, Dried Ghasts were added for players to use. These begin as dehydrated blocks, giving you an opportunity to revive it into a Happy Ghast. These aren’t your typical ghasts, they actually prefer the Overworld and love players! You can even ride them to soar the skies, build even larger bases, or throw bombs on your friends 😂
Let’s see how you can find a Dried Ghast in Minecraft and transform it into a Happy Ghast!
Dried Ghast Spawn Locations
There is really only one location where you can find Dried Ghasts – the Nether. More specifically, around fossils in soul sand valleys. You can easily miss them if you aren’t looking, as their textures blend in with the bone blocks. If you’ve been hunting one for ages and can’t find it, consider crafting it. This can be done by using x8 Ghast Tears + x1 Soul Sand in a workbench. In other words, you can basically create life in Minecraft…
Ghastling Transformation
When you craft or collect a Dried Ghast in Minecraft, the first step towards reviving it is to bring it back to the Overworld. You’ll want to submerge it in water and wait – be patient as it will take a good amount of time. Typically, this process will last for about 20 minutes. Afterwards, it will appear as a Ghastling!
At this point, the Ghastling is small and will roam around your world. Feed it snowballs and over time, you will see growth. Otherwise, you can wait and it will naturally become its final form.
Happy Ghast
After enough snowballs or time, your Ghastling will become a Happy Ghast! You can craft a harness to begin flying around with up to 4 of your friends at the same time. This is a great way to navigate the world, build large projects, or just have fun with others. Whatever you plan, your best buddy – the Happy Ghast – will be around forever!
The Story of Ghasts
If you’re curious about Dried Ghasts, Ghastlings, Happy Ghasts, or just Ghasts in general – you’re right to feel that way. The update really expanded Minecraft’s lore in subtle ways. Instead of just a new mob, Mojang decided to show us that Ghasts are more than just annoying crying enemies in the Nether. They were abandoned long ago, in a hostile otherworldly environment … far away from home. It’s up to YOU to bring back this lost species!
