One of the key components when hosting your own Minecraft server is knowing the address. This allows you to join in-game, along with sharing it with others. Creating and sharing memories with friends in multiplayer requires a server address. Whether you play Java or Bedrock Edition, this rule still applies. With this in mind, let’s break down what a server address is in Minecraft.

Minecraft Server Address – Explained

Every server has a unique identifier, the address, used to join a multiplayer world. You can think of it like a digital ‘street address’, directing your connection to the right area. This can appear as numbers or letters, depending on the setup. If you host a Minecraft server with Apex Hosting, you will have both.

  • IP Address: A set of numbers (like 192.168.1.1) that directly identifies the server.
  • Domain Name: A human-friendly version of an IP (like play.domain.com) that’s easier to remember.

There’s an additional set of numbers for a server address in Minecraft, the Port. This is attached to the end, typically about 5 numbers. The default port is 25565, which is like an apartment number on a complex – telling you which specific room your friends are in (e.g. 192.168.1.1:25565).

Minecraft Server Address Guide

Why is the Server Address Important?

The server address is crucial because it allows your game to locate and connect to the right server. If you type the wrong address, you won’t be able to join – or you may connect to a completely different server. By using the correct one, players can explore SMPs, creative hubs, minigames, or custom worlds hosted by communities and friends.

You can locate your Minecraft server address by navigating to your Apex server panel. The same goes for any domains you configured, not including custom ones managed by a third-party. Simply copy / paste the server address and join!
