Hytale is here and players are just starting their adventure! As you begin playing, you might be unfamiliar with certain survival mechanics, features, or quick tips that come in handy. Understanding the basics of Hytale is important, as you need to know how to manage Zone 1. This is the first area that you discover in-game, with various structures, creatures, and resources scattered throughout the land.
In this Apex Hosting tutorial, we’ll help you and new players alike to become familiar with Hytale. From pocket crafting to early bases, this beginner’s guide will teach gameplay tips and tricks. Let’s begin!
Getting Started
Whether you invited friends on a Hytale server or jumped into singleplayer, everyone starts out the same. In Zone 1, you will be faced with gathering basic resources, discovering abandoned structures, slaying enemies, and locating ores in cave systems. This is the starting point for all players, which is more peaceful than other zones in Hytale.
You first will want to collect Plant Fibers, Sticks, and Stone Rubble. You can break bushes and pick up rocks to gather these materials, which are used for crafting recipes. There are also Wild Berries, Apples, and other kinds of food to find.
Hytale Beginner Tips
- Don’t waste food – Hunger regenerates health over time. Better food provides stronger and longer lasting regeneration, so only eat when you need healing.
- Always use weapons in combat – Weapons deal far more damage and have special attacks. Tools and bare hands are largely ineffective against enemies.
- Use the ‘Z’ Slot for quick access – Assign torches, shields, or other items to the ‘Z’ Slot wheel by opening your inventory. You can equip up to 4 items.
- Break the base of trees – Destroy the bottom portion of a tree to break the entire structure at once, giving you more logs faster.
- Death is forgiving – You lose partial items after dying, but everything loses 10% durability, including weapons, tools, and armor.
Pocket Crafting
After collecting basic resources, pocket crafting is your next step! Open your inventory and you’ll find craftable items at the top. Begin making a Crude Hatchet, Crude Pickaxe, and Crude Sword – with a Crude Shovel being optional. These tools allow you to break down trees for Logs, mining stone for Cobblestone, and attacking creatures or enemies.
You also may notice the Workbench in pocket crafting, which is the main crafting station. Collect enough resources to make it, alongside anything else you might want. Afterwards, you can place it down to begin crafting more complex tools and items.
Early Base Ideas
If you’re wanting a quick base, then using the Default Spawn Location is your best bet. Upon loading into any new world, you will spawn inside of a temple-like cave that has a big sturdy door. This protects you against any enemies outside, while also giving you an area for workbenches, chests, and other stations. Take advantage of this!
On the other hand, you can find yourself a nice Underground Cave to call home. Build walls, add a door, and use torches to light up the darkness. This simple base allows you to easily mine for resources, while offering protection against enemies. The best part? You can make it as large as you want. It all depends on how many players are with you and how many stations you place down.
Combat System
Whenever you fight creatures, wildlife, or enemies, you need to understand a few key points. The first is that you want to only use weapons, as they will have special attack abilities that can deal massive amounts of damage. Once you land a good number of hits on a mob, it charges up this unique attack – press Q on your keyboard to activate it.
You may also want to craft and use a Shield, as this can help defend against stronger opponents. Pair it with a sword and you’ll be unstoppable! Whether you’re fighting a Skeleton, Goblin, or a Boss – using the right weapons and special attacks is your best shot at victory.
Structures & Caves
Players will encounter various structures on the surface and underground as they explore. These are known as Prefabs, which are found all over the world. These may include Ruins, Dungeons, Temples, Mineshafts, and so much more. One specific ruin you might come across is the Emerald Grove, found in Zone 1. We encourage you to explore the world of Orbis to find these structures, especially since they might lead you somewhere interesting. An example could be where you find a cave full of treasures and a Goblin Duke awaiting battle.
Unique Locations
On the topic of structures, there are certain locations found across each zone that hold secrets. We won’t spoil anything, but one of these leads you to the Forgotten Temple – but first you need to defeat an enemy guarding its portal. We strongly recommend only venturing into these unique locations when you’re ready. There can be strong enemies that put up a fight!
