This is one of the most common messages players see when something on the server doesn’t load right. Symptoms include: endless loading screens, crashes when joining, or instant disconnects. This can also appear as the first-time message, then changes when trying to join again.

Likely Causes:

Whitelist enabled but player isn’t added to it.
Minor permission or player data corruption.
Early Access inconsistencies.
Client/server version mismatch.

Fixes:

Restart your server, update your launcher, then join again.
Disable the whitelist or add the impacted player to it.
Restore the world to a previous backup or create a new one.
Stop the server, then revert any recent changes to configs or mods folder.

Failed to Read Server Config

After editing the main server configuration file or uploading a custom one, it can sometimes result in a crash. A similar issue can also occur if you tweak other config files.

Cause: A broken or invalid server configuration file with errors inside of it.

Fixes:

Stop the server, revert any changes made to the config file, then restart.
Delete the entire config file, then restart the server so it regenerates.
Use the File Editor via FTP File Access to check for errors, then correct them.

Effectively, you want to ensure there are no broken formats, missing characters, or errors in the file. If everything is correct, then the server should startup normally again.

Failed to Load World

In some cases, a world on your Hytale server cannot load properly. Reasons for it may include: broken world settings, file corruption, or missing data from an upload.

Likely Causes:

World settings were changed incorrectly inside of its config file(s).
A failed upload of a world, with either missing files or simply a broken map.
The world got corrupted by overloading it with structures or entities.

Fixes:

Revert any recent changes made to the world settings
Regenerate the world config file(s) by deleting them & restarting the server.
Re-upload the world and ensure all files get transferred correctly.
Restore the world in your server panel or from a local backup.
Delete the world and recreate it, with or without custom options.
Remove any world management plugins / mods.

Since Hytale is in Early Access, there might be additional causes or fixes in the future.

Rate Limit Handler / Time Out

Hytale servers have a built-in rate limit handler that prevents too many actions in-game, such as pasting too many structures, entities, or blocks at once. Spamming commands and actions can result in you being kicked, potentially even causing world corruption. This could even make you time out, but there are other reasons for that.

Likely Causes:

Spam pasting too many blocks at once, e.g. 1,000,000 blocks pasted from clipboard.
Spamming the server with too many commands or actions.
The server is lagging, while the world is trying to load.
Poor connection to the server location (bad latency).
Server mods or plugins are triggering rate limits for everyone.

Fixes:

Avoid pasting too many structures, entities, or blocks at once in-game.
Do not spam commands on the server that impact the world.
Reboot your launcher, restart the server, then direct connect.
Uninstall mods or plugins that could cause the problem(s).
Remove your player data from the world.

In many cases, the server would still be operational – but you’d be unable to join. Try these various fixes to pinpoint the exact cause of the issue. Alternatively, it might be entirely your internet connection.

Player Lag & Freezing

Remember, Hytale is in Early Access and server networking / stability is still being worked on. A recent update did address this issue, so hopefully that helped. However, there are still other causes that could be related to the problem.

Likely Causes:

Server mods or plugins overloading the server.
If one player is impacted, it could be internet connection issues.
Poor server performance / optimization.

Fixes:

Remove any problematic mod or plugin that lags the server.

Version Mismatch

As of right now, this is the current cause and fix for the problem. In the future, it will become possible to choose a specific game version you want. This would create more potential issues.
