Overview
When running a Minecraft Server, the most important part of your server is likely your world as it holds all of your in-game progress. As a server owner, keeping this world safe should be one of your top priorities. This is why here at Apex, we have created a world backup and restore system. This backup system allows you to create backups of your world that can be restored at any time. This is especially useful if you run into any problems such as griefers, world corruption, or other world-destroying problems. You can restore the backups simply from the Apex game panel and we will be walking you through each step on how to.
The backup system in this guide is only directed towards Minecraft: Java Edition and does not work yet for Bedrock Edition.
How to Restore a Backup
- Head to the Game Panel and stop the server.
- To the left of the game panel, click on the “Backup” tab.
- Locate which world/date you want to restore and press “Restore” to the right of it.
- Head back to the main page of the game panel and open the console tab. In the console, wait until the message “Done, returned ok” displays. Once it does, go ahead and start the server back up.
Restoring Your World to a New Server
Good news! If your server was terminated either this month or last month, we almost certainly have a backup of your files waiting for you.
To get your world restored to a brand-new server, just follow these two simple steps:
- Purchase a New Server: The first step is to order a new server. It’s very important that you use the same billing account that was used for the original server.
- Submit a Support Ticket: Once your new server is active, head over to our support section and submit a ticket to our team. In your ticket, simply ask for the backup from your old terminated server to be restored to the new one.
Our team will take it from there! We’ll find the backup and begin the restoration process. Please keep in mind that the time this takes can vary depending on the size of your files, but we’ll get it done as quickly as possible.
What if I just want my files?
If you don’t want to purchase a new server right now but still want to save your world, we can help with that too. Just submit a ticket and ask our team if a backup is available and if you can get a download link for it.
Important Note on Timing
Our backup storage is not unlimited, so we can only hold onto files for a limited time. If your server was terminated more than two months ago, the files have been permanently deleted from our system and unfortunately cannot be recovered. If you want to restore your world, it’s best to act as soon as possible!
Common Issues
Backup is still not restored on the server
If your backup is not restored when you connect to the server, it can be a variety of things causing the issue. Make sure that when you restored the backup the server was offline. Also, keep in mind that the backup system only holds 1 automatic backup at once and it will overwrite it each day. It’s possible that the backup you are trying to restore to is too late.
